Perth Women’s Physio Workshops and presentations

Think that learning about women’s health and pelvic floor muscles would be more fun when learnt in a group? We’d say you’re right! It can be interesting, informative and be filled with lots of laughter when you learn about your health with our customised workshops. It is also more affordable too. We currently offer three topics for women in Western Australia.

Consider inviting us to your mother’s group, work-place or sporting club to present on the three topics described below. If you are interested, please complete this enquiry form so we can contact you to discuss a date and time that suits your group. Babies are welcome too!

Each workshop can be 60-90minutes long. It will include a fun, informative presentation on the topic you choose, followed by brief individual real time ultrasound assessments.

1. The Mummy Files – postnatal recovery

  • Learn about the effects of pregnancy and childbirth on pelvic floor and abdominal muscles.
  • Learn some key exercises to strengthen the pelvic floor and abdominal muscles.
  • Receive a brief, individual real time ultrasound assessment to identify an abdominal muscle separation and your pelvic floor muscle control.
  • Discuss some common problems which women experience after baby, such as wrist, neck and back pain, bladder urgency or leakage, prolapse and pain with sexual intercourse.
  • Be reassured that we have ways that you can ask your questions confidentially, so you can still keep your private matters, secret!

2. Pelvic Floor Exercises are for life

  • Learn about the importance of pelvic floor muscles and why all women need to do them regularly.
  • Learn about how to integrate them into your daily routine and to check they are strong enough for your work or exercise program.
  • Receive a brief, individual real time ultrasound assessment to check that you can isolate your pelvic floor muscles.
  • Learn about common bladder, bowel and prolapse problems and how you can help prevent or improve these symptoms.
  • Learn about general bladder and bowel health and the common mistakes women make that can lead to problems.
  • Be reassured that we have ways that you can ask your questions confidentially, so you can still keep your private matters, secret!
  • This is a topic that can be altered slightly to be relevant for men as well.

3. Prepare Me For Menopause/ Living the 3rd Age

There becomes a time when you and your friends may be discussing the BIG M – Menopause (or perimenopause) over coffee. No more babies, kids are getting bigger and you are noticing hot flushes, night sweats, mood swings and a cessation of periods. This presentation will include information on:

  • The basic changes in menopause and what is happening to your hormones.
  • The positive consequences of menopause (3rd Age)
  • The negative consequences of menopause.
  • Osteoporosis and tips for preventing it.
  • Heart health concerns and how to improve it after menopause.
  • Brief, individual real time ultrasound assessments of pelvic floor muscle control
  • Learn about common bladder, bowel and sexual health concerns after menopause.
  • Basic nutritional advice and tips that can help with common perimenopause symptoms.
  • Be reassured that we have ways that you can ask your questions confidentially, so you can still keep your private matters, secret!

Important Information regarding PWP workshops:

  1. Numbers – optimum numbers are 6-10 people as this allows for the ultrasound assessment. Presentations to larger groups is possible, but numbers and price will be discussed on individual request.
  2. Cost – $300
  3. Time – allow 60-90minutes depending on number of attendees, ultrasound assessments and question time.
  4. Location – You will need to provide a space appropriate for the workshop. You need to consider how many people are coming, toilets and tea/coffee facilities. PWP may be able to suggest a venue upon request.
  5. Payment needs to occur 2 weeks prior to workshop date. Payments can be done in full, or by individual attendees.
  6. Country groups are requested to contact PWP to discuss the travel requirements, group numbers and accommodation options.
